Getting to Kavalierhaus Klessheim – Event Venue in Salzburg

Kavalierhaus Klessheim is quietly situated on the green outskirts of Salzburg, yet it is still quick and easy to reach. Whether you are travelling by bus, train, car or plane, the journey to our event and wedding venue in Salzburg is shorter than you might think.

By Bus
The trolleybus line 1 stop “Klessheim (b. Salzburg) Kavalierhaus” is just a two-minute walk from the entrance and provides a direct connection to Salzburg Central Station. The line 28 stop “Klessheim Red Bull Arena” can be reached in approximately ten minutes on foot.

By Train
The “Taxham/Klessheim” S-Bahn station is a ten-minute walk away. From there, the S2 and S3 lines run every 30 minutes between 5:00 a.m. and midnight, with direct connections to Salzburg Central Station. The journey takes approximately five minutes.

By Plane
Salzburg Airport can be reached within a few minutes by taxi or car. When travelling by public transport, take trolleybus line 1 and change to trolleybus line 2 at the “Hans-Schmid-Platz” stop.

By Car
Take the “Klessheim/Europark” exit from the A1 motorway and follow the signs towards Casino/Schloss Klessheim. Turn left before the palace. Kavalierhaus Klessheim is clearly signposted. Free parking is available directly in front of the venue.

Accessible Entrance
Kavalierhaus Klessheim is wheelchair accessible. The main entrance has several steps, while the side entrance provides step-free access to the building via a lift. Kavalierhaus Klessheim is located on the green outskirts of Salzburg, with a direct motorway exit and free parking right outside the venue. The historic 19th-century Baroque building offers approximately 540 square metres of event space across five individually adaptable rooms, providing the ideal setting for every occasion: weddings in Salzburg, corporate events, seminars, gala evenings, Christmas parties or private birthday celebrations. The indoor spaces accommodate up to 300 guests, while events using the palace gardens can host up to 600 people.

Each room at Kavalierhaus Klessheim has its own distinctive character. The 160-square-metre Marble Hall is ideal for banquets, receptions and gala evenings. The Ferstel Room offers a quiet setting for smaller meetings and workshops. The White Hall and Salon complement the Marble Hall as buffet areas or private retreat spaces. With its glass façades, the conservatory offers views of the palace gardens and Salzburg’s mountain scenery. The spacious palace gardens are ideal for outdoor events, summer celebrations and open-air wedding ceremonies.

Kavalierhaus Klessheim – An Event Venue in Salzburg with a Rich History

Anyone celebrating an event at Kavalierhaus Klessheim enters a place steeped in history. From an imperial winter residence and a guest house during the Second World War to one of Salzburg’s sought-after event venues, Kavalierhaus Klessheim tells stories that no modern building could offer.

Archduke Ludwig Viktor and Kavalierhaus Klessheim
Neighbouring Klessheim Palace was built between 1687 and 1744 according to plans by Baroque architect Fischer von Erlach. In 1866, Emperor Franz Joseph I presented the palace to his younger brother, Archduke Ludwig Viktor – popularly known as “Luziwuzi” – who used it as his residence.

As the spacious palace was difficult to heat during winter, Ludwig Viktor commissioned Viennese architect Heinrich Ferstel to build a winter residence: today’s Kavalierhaus Klessheim. Ludwig Viktor was also known for his annual summer celebrations in the palace gardens – a festive tradition that continues in a new form to this day.

Kavalierhaus Klessheim During the Second World War
In 1940, the German Wehrmacht converted both Klessheim Palace and Kavalierhaus Klessheim into prestigious guest houses. Their location near Berchtesgaden and the increasingly prominent festival city of Salzburg was considered strategically advantageous.

The basements of both buildings were converted into bunkers, and each was equipped with a U-boat diesel generator for its power supply. The generator at Kavalierhaus Klessheim remains in the event venue’s basement to this day.

Kavalierhaus Klessheim Today: An Event Venue and Training Centre in Salzburg
Kavalierhaus Klessheim has been owned by the State of Salzburg since 1962 and is operated by the Salzburg-Klessheim Tourism Schools. Its elegant rooms and modern conservatory provide the perfect setting for weddings, banquets, corporate celebrations, receptions and presentations – within a historic atmosphere found nowhere else in Salzburg.
